ChatGPT, or software built for medical reports?
Many clinicians rewrite their notes in ChatGPT because it's quick and always at hand. With medical reports, though, what matters is where patient data ends up and how much time you lose copying and formatting.

In short

Why it matters for a clinic
Health data is a special category
GDPR classes health data as a special category, with strict rules. When a provider processes data on a clinic's behalf, the law requires a data processing agreement (DPA).
No copying and pasting
Press F1 in the application you're working in, dictate and get the final report. No moving text between windows, no redoing the formatting for every patient.
The same format in every report
Your template fixes the structure and the phrasing. You no longer depend on how a request was worded in a particular conversation.
You review, you sign
The patient safety organisation ECRI ranked the misuse of AI chatbots first among health technology hazards for 2026. Whatever the tool, the clinician reviews the final report.
When it's fine to use ChatGPT
ChatGPT is still useful for text that contains no patient data, for example:
- an email to a colleague or to the clinic's administration;
- a summary of a public guideline or medical article;
- general information for patients, which you review before passing it on.

Questions about ChatGPT and medical reports
What about ChatGPT's business plans?
They come with different terms: according to OpenAI, data from business plans isn't used to train models by default, and Enterprise offers storage in Europe. They are still general assistants, though, with no report templates and no PACS or RIS export.
Is it fine if I remove the patient's name?
Usually not. If the patient can be identified by combining age, location, date and diagnosis, the data is still personal data under GDPR.
Doesn't Dictaris Neo use AI too?
Yes. Dictaris Neo uses AI to draft the report from your dictation, but with data processed exclusively in the EU and a signed DPA, and you review every report.
